“Shahriyar” TV Series to Be Shot

TEHRAN March 15 (Mehr News Agency) –- Written by screenwriter Mahdi Sajjadehchi, the “Shahriyar” TV series will go into production soon.

Sajjadehchi said the series will depict the social and personal life of the contemporary poet, Shahriyar and his relationship with prominent literary figures like poets Malak al-Sho’ara Bahar, Iraj Mirza, Aref Qazvini and great musician Abolhassan Saba.

 

“The sources to which I have referred include the books written by Boyuk Nikandish, the two-volume divan of Shahriyar himself and several student theses,” said the writer.

 

Pointing to the main theme of the series, he said, “The series focuses on the life story of Shahriyar as well as the episodes which narrate the events before Sahahriyar’s birth, such as the Constitutional Movement.”

 

Born in 1906 in Tabriz, Mohammad-Hossein Behjat Tabrizi whose nom de plume is  Shahriyar, was undoubtedly a gifted and talented contemporary poet. He composed the first and the most famous Turkish (the local Azeri version) poetry collection ever written by an Iranian; the “Heydar Baba”.

 

Many of his bittersweet memories are reflected in his books, "Hazyan Del", "Heydar Baba", "Mumia'i" and "Night Fable". Shahriyar composed diversified forms of poetry including lyrics, quatrains, couplets, odes, and elegy poems. He died in 1988.
